Nationwide’s giving away a £100 bonus – are you eligible?
If you bank with Nationwide Building Society, you could get a free £100 paid straight into your account this June through its Fairer Share scheme.
Published: 21 May 2026
This is the fourth year in a row Nationwide has handed out the bonus, rewarding customers by sharing some of its profits.
What is the Fairer Share scheme?
The Fairer Share scheme is Nationwide’s way of giving money back to its members.
Because Nationwide is a building society, not a traditional bank, it doesn’t have shareholders to pay dividends to. Instead, it shares some of its profits with eligible customers.
This year, Nationwide will pay out £440m to 4.4m customers after reporting profits of £2bn for the year ending 31 March 2026.
Will you get the £100?
Not every Nationwide customer will qualify, but you could be eligible if you meet a few conditions.
To get the payment, you must:
- have had a Nationwide current account open on 31 March 2026
- have used your account during the first three months of 2026
- have either savings or a mortgage with Nationwide
The exact rules depend on the type of account you have.
If you have a FlexAccount, FlexBasic or FlexDirect
You’ll qualify if, in at least two of the first three months of 2026, you:
- paid in at least £500 from a non-Nationwide account and made at least two payments out
OR
- made 10 or more payments out of your account
OR
- completed a full current account switch to Nationwide between 1 January and 31 March 2026
If you have a FlexOne, FlexGraduate or FlexStudent account
You’ll qualify if, in March 2026, you:
- paid money in from a non-Nationwide account
OR
- made a payment out of your account
OR
- completed a full switch to a FlexOne or FlexStudent account between 1 January and 31 March 2026
If you have a FlexPlus account
You simply need to have paid the monthly account fee.
You’ll also need one of these
As well as meeting the account rules, you must also have:
- at least £100 in Nationwide savings at the end of any day in March 2026
OR
- at least £100 remaining on a Nationwide mortgage on 31 March 2026
Do you need to do anything?
No, if you qualify, the money will be paid directly into your account.
What if you’re a Virgin Money customer?
Virgin Money customers won’t get the bonus this year.
Nationwide completed its takeover of Virgin Money in April, but the building society says Virgin Money customers “could be eligible for a Fairer Share payment in 2027”, including qualifying Virgin Money accounts.
Any future payments will still depend on Nationwide’s financial performance.
Watch out for scams
Scammers often take advantage of big payouts like this, so be careful if you get messages about claiming your bonus.
You should never trust anyone asking for personal or banking details to “release” your payment.
And if you’re pressured to click a link quickly or act fast, that’s a major red flag.
Remember:
- genuine companies won’t rush you into making decisions
- always double-check where messages have come from
- think carefully before clicking links or sharing information
